Regional Informal Workshop on Enhancing Parliamentarians Role in Shaping Labor Migration in Southeast Asia: Singapore, August 18 2008

The second parliamentarians’ program, organized by MFA and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Philippines in cooperation with the Singapore National Trade Union Congress, took place in Singapore. The workshop allowed for open discussion on how parliamentarians in ASEAN can increase their role in addressing labour migration at various levels – national, bilateral and regional. Participants included members of parliament from the ASEAN region (including parliamentary / legislative staff), representatives from migrant CSOs, trade unions, the academe as well as the European Commission. The workshop was scheduled a day prior to the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) so that a focused input could be presented to this body.
